"Check email only twice a day – Yes, a scary thought but this is something I did to improve my productivity (and sanity). I dedicated two 1-hour blocks every day to check and reply to emails. By the time I became a manager of managers at Amazon, I didn’t have much time left between the 1:1s and other essential meetings so blocking out 2 hours daily was crucial. Initially I worried about being away from such an important communication channel but I figured if there was something urgent one would call, IM or come by my office. In fact, that extra effort created a “is this important” filter so I would dedicate 100% of my attention to the matter.
