We asked the alumni below, celebrating a birthday today, August 18, "Where are you now?" Here's what they said...

Meredith Barnes '01, MBA '13
After over two years of mostly staying put here in Durham because of the pandemic, I am finally back to traveling now that my youngest child is fully vaccinated! I recently went on a work trip to Peru, and my family braved the Florida heat this summer with a trip to the Sanibel Island area. On a professional note, I've been working for the last six and a half years as the director of finance and operations at MiracleFeet, an international nonprofit organization working to end the disability caused by clubfoot.

I have just relocated my family to Portugal, so we are now living in Cascais with our three younger children (Oliver nine, and Pietro and Lavinia our three-year-old twins), while our three older children are now at university in London, New York, and Boston respectively. Here is a picture of my son, Oliver, catching the moon on a beach in Cascais.

Hello, everyone! I am working as an operating analyst at the eBay Shanghai office now. Thanks to Fuqua, I have learned key skills to be competent at my job and many pearls of wisdom to live my life. I really miss Team Fuqua, and hope to have a reunion with Fuqua friends soon.

Team Fuqua, hope you are doing well wherever you are currently in the world. As for me, my wife, Tracy Xia MBA '10, and I live in the Bay Area with our two beautiful boys. We are having a great time writing books, building our startup, and enjoying the California nature.

I have been settled back in my hometown of Atlanta since 2009, and I currently lead the Marketing and R&D group for Printpack. Seen in this photo, we took our first "post-Covid" overseas trip earlier this summer to Italy, which was refreshing. I will be spending more time back in Durham during the next few years as my two oldest kids will be a freshman and junior at Duke this fall, so I hope to run into more of you all in Cameron Indoor or around campus again soon.

Ritu Namdev MBA '09
I am currently in Cambridge, MA, at Ipsen Biosciences as the head of Research and Development Operations. I'm working remotely from the Poconos throughout the summer. I just finished a white water rafting trip through the Grand Canyon, and I am preparing for a hike to the Everest Base Camp later this year.

My family and I are back in Sweden after a very eventful week up in Norway, where we enjoyed stunning landscapes, long hikes, and fishing. Now the challenge is to plow through all the photos that we took :) Work-wise, as of June first, I transitioned into the role of general manager for one of the fastest-growing business units at Emerson, and I am very excited about this opportunity which, among other things, implies global travel. As the world continues to reopen, I am looking forward to reconnecting with fellow Dukies in person again!

Cindy Schwartz MBA '94
Hello Fuqua Friends! I'm still enjoying Chicago - especially when my family comes to visit me during the summer (notice my dad always breaks out his Duke gear when he sees me!) What's new? Unfortunately, several people close to me have been hit by breast cancer, so I just joined Chicago's Susan G. Koman's Leadership Council to help the fight. On a lighter note, I'm really looking forward to a girls' weekend next month with Adi (Niv) Renbaum MBA '94, Felisse (Cirin) Starker MBA '94, and Tricia (Deacy) Hawkins MBA '94.

Since graduating from Fuqua, I moved to New York City and have continued my international travel journeys. When you read this, I’ll be in the Moroccan Sahara star gazing and sandboarding. In NYC, I work in Venture Philanthropy, investing in organizations that seek to provide economic, racial and social justice (probably not a surprise to many) to the most marginalized communities across the country. My job involves a lot of public speaking and presenting, so the five courses I took in management communication have proven invaluable.
