Fuqua Impact Scholars
Hi! I'm Carlos Ochoa, and I'm from rural Southeast Texas near Houston, TX. After graduating from Rice University, I pursued impact-driven work as a high school math teacher in Memphis, TN, then as a program manager at a college access nonprofit in Houston, TX before coming to Fuqua to understand the levers organizations pull to create impact at larger scale. I'm a big fan of storytelling media (movies, books, games, etc), strategy board games, and playing music (French horn, ukulele, others that I dabble on).
I’m from Chennai, India, and spent seven years in the education sector before coming to Duke. I began my career with Teach for India, and most recently, I founded Safe Schools, a non-profit dedicated to reducing child abuse and creating safer learning environments in schools serving low-income communities. Currently, I’m recruiting for consulting and looking forward to learning how to tackle business challenges across different industries. When I need to unwind, I turn to freshly brewed filter coffee, Carnatic music, nature walks, and yoga—my way of finding balance after a busy day.
Originally from Germany, I served my alma mater, Queens University of Charlotte, as team captain and later Chief of Staff, while pursuing my collegiate and professional swimming career. Embracing many adventures and opportunities in the space of transatlantic relations and higher education, one constant has been my life motto: "Show me your friends, I'll show you your future". This belief has not only allowed me to be the first person in my family to cross the Atlantic but has ultimately led me to join #TeamFuqua. As I truly believe in the value of building meaningful connections, as an admissions ambassador, I am excited to learn from your personal story as well as support you in pursuing your grad school aspirations. Looking forward to connecting!
