MMS: Duke Kunshan University Student Weichen Luo

“Here I've met people from different countries, cultures, schools, and industries. It amazes me how this diverse group of people contribute to class discussions and build a network for one another. I’ve shared my experience in private banking and financial services with people who just started considering it because of their experiences at Fuqua and the excellent career resources provided.”

Why I Chose Fuqua

I had a strong quantitative background but wanted to enhance my qualitative skillset as well as my business communication skills by learning from top-tier professors. I felt Fuqua’s unique career management resources and alumni network would also help me be more certain about my career path, and that the school's reputation would boost my career growth in the future. The network and long-lasting relationships I've built here will continue to benefit me in the future, especially through weekly alumni meetings in Shanghai and Beijing.

Before Fuqua

I’ve worked as an analyst intern for private banking, investment banking, and a corporate taxation office. These jobs all required a highly quantitative skillset, and I lacked the appropriate qualitative and soft skills that are also very important in the workplace.

After Fuqua

I hope first to work as a mutual fund financial analyst in the biotech industry, progressing to a mutual fund manager at a financial institution. In the later stage of my career, I hope to create value for our society by establishing my own PE fund with several partners to support young entrepreneurs.

5 Tips for Maximizing Your Time at Fuqua

  1. Meet your team members before the program starts and get to know each other very well.
  2. Build strong relationships with your peers, and if possible, students from other programs as well. Their diverse backgrounds and knowledge will truly benefit you in the long run.
  3. Make sure to take advantage of the career management resources. Meet with a coach to unpack your interview experiences and search progress!
  4. Be actively engaged in teamwork and contribute as much as possible. This is an excellent opportunity to enhance both your hard and soft skillsets.
  5. Feel free to join all clubs and activities you are interested in, and don’t miss the basketball and football games!

What I Love About Durham

  1. While I’ve always lived in big cities, a place where I can live close to the forest is very exciting to me.
  2. Durham is part of the well-known Research Triangle Park, where you will find many top-tier technology companies and scholarly institutions. Here I can immerse myself in this high-tech environment and visit companies that I like.
  3. Durham is perfect for people who love wildlife and hiking. You may have a surprise encounter with animals like deer and snakes.
  4. The Museum of Life and Science features both indoor and outdoor learning environments. The butterfly house and giant treehouse are not to be missed.
  5. In Durham, I can be fully dedicated to work and study while still have a bunch of things to do in my free time.
  6. The weather is very nice here. I enjoy having sunshine almost every day.
