Reflections

I chose the Health Analytics MSQM program to enhance my understanding of how to leverage data to help health care organizations better serve their patients. Health systems are grappling with the evolving medical reimbursement landscape. As government and commercial payers shift risk toward health care providers, it is imperative that health care organizations leverage data to maximize decision-making, effectively coordinate care, and reduce the overall cost of medical care. The program’s curriculum – foundational business and health care knowledge blended with data analytics – has been very rewarding. I am developing the cutting-edge skills and knowledge sought by health care employers to elevate their organizations’ efficiency and effectiveness to address future challenges in a value-based health care landscape.

Before Fuqua

Before I started the Health Analytics MSQM program at Duke, I worked in both the health care payer and health care provider sector, specifically focused on managed-care finance, population health, and clinical quality improvement.

After Fuqua

After completing the MSQM Health Analytics program, I hope to leverage my data analysis and business acumen to help health care providers become data-literate decision makers as they transition from a fee-for-service payment model to value-based, risk-based reimbursement.

Advice to Prospective Students

The best advice I could give to a prospective Duke MSQM student would be that the sacrifice of doing a part-time program while working full-time can pay tremendous dividends on your career if you maximize your time at Fuqua. Don’t just pursue the degree but instead, lean into the Fuqua alumni, leverage the Fuqua connection, attend extracurricular events with your classmates, and volunteer to be on the MSQM leadership team. Push yourself to get involved and stay involved and you will gain the full reward of a MSQM degree from Fuqua.
