Reflections

Over the course of the terms, I discovered the concept of “Team Fuqua” is real. “Team Fuqua” has been a consistent core point of emphasis, from the activities during the orientation to the placement on a team for the entire duration of the program. That said, I feel that my connection to the Duke community and relationships with my teammates have been a highlight of the program.

Before Fuqua

My current role is the Associate Vice President of Scoring and Reporting at ETS. I lead a highly capable team of 100+ staff members along with nearly 50K raters. We are responsible for delivering constructed response scoring, college/university applicant reviewer services, scoring and reporting services, contractor, and vendor management as well as management of the Advanced Placement (AP) Reading scoring event. Our primary products and clients include TOEFL, TOEIC, Praxis, GRE, K12 state contracts, and College Board programs.

After Fuqua

After I complete my degree, I want to expand my role beyond leading scoring and reporting operations at ETS. For me, the MSQM program was the perfect intersection of business concepts of my prior MBA plus 25 years of work experience combined with new concepts of data science and business analytics and strategy.

I am eager to leverage my newly acquired skills to take on a broader senior executive role. My focus is on providing strategic business insights and shaping corporate strategy. I aspire to lead large scale operations, driving product development, growth, and innovation while using the core quantitative concepts in data analytics and programming (R and Python).

Why I Chose to Study Business Analytics at Fuqua

I chose to pursue a Master of Science Quantitative Management: Business Analytics degree at Fuqua as the program was the ideal mix of business analytics, AI, and machine learning to complement my prior MBA and 25+ years of professional experience. The MSQM program offered an ideal curriculum in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, with a specific focus on business applications and data-driven insights. The program’s learning model combined campus experiences with weekly live virtual classes taught by top Duke professors. Additionally, the team-based cohort structure fosters personal connections to my classmates and Duke community, exactly what I was looking for in a program. An ancillary benefit includes support from the Fuqua Career Management Center and access to the Duke alumni networks, providing valuable insights and additional learning opportunities.
