MSQM: HA Student Aravind Chandrashekar

“The most pleasantly surprising aspect of the MSQM: Health Analytics program has been the incredible dedication of resources and support specifically for MSQM students. It is clear that Fuqua truly believes in this program, not just as an extension of its other professional tracks, but as a distinct pathway for those looking to lead in health care and analytics. The curriculum strikes a perfect balance between technical skills and leadership development, ensuring we are well-equipped to drive meaningful change in the industry.”

Reflections

As a practicing Urologist, I witness daily how data-driven decision-making shapes the future of health care. To drive meaningful improvements in patient outcomes and operational efficiency, it’s essential to understand, synthesize, and apply the data effectively. Health care is an inherently complex industry, with multiple stakeholders navigating evolving relationships, regulations, and financial constraints. Business and strategic innovations are critical to improving quality and reducing costs, ensuring equitable access to all levels of care, from preventive services to surgical interventions.

I pursued the MSQM: Health Analytics degree at Fuqua to further develop my leadership, management, and analytics skills, positioning myself at the forefront of change. By enhancing my ability to analyze and apply data, I aim to contribute to solutions that optimize health care delivery. This program also provides an essential foundation in emerging technologies, equipping me with insights into innovations that are shaping the industry today and those on the horizon. With this knowledge, I can play an active role in transforming health care, ensuring that the system evolves to meet the needs of patients, providers, and organizations effectively. Fuqua’s balance of technical and strategic training makes it the ideal place to prepare for this mission.

Before Fuqua

In my current role, I serve as a Urologist with Southern California Permanente Medical Group (SCPMG) in Riverside, CA, where I provide comprehensive urologic care, focusing on male infertility and fertility preservation. I hold leadership roles as Assistant Chief of Service for Urology, Quality Management and Performance Improvement Champion, and Male Infertility Lead for the Southern California Region. I am also deeply involved in medical education, serving as an Assistant Professor and Faculty Executive Council Secretary at Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine (KPSOM). My responsibilities include mentorship, curriculum development, and faculty governance. Additionally, I contribute to quality improvement efforts, appeals processes, and physician peer support, all aimed at enhancing health care delivery and patient outcomes.

After Fuqua

Upon completing the MSQM: Health Analytics program, I plan to pursue further leadership and management roles within my current organization to drive health care innovation. My goal is to improve quality and outcomes while managing costs, ensuring that our patients receive the best possible care. I hope our efforts will serve as a model for other organizations to optimize health care delivery in the U.S. and globally. Eventually, I aspire to leverage my clinical experience and Fuqua MSQM skills to transition into industry, where I can contribute to health care innovation on a broader scale, both in clinical and non-clinical capacities.

My Favorite Fuqua Professor

One of my favorite professors is Professor Henry Eyring, who teaches “Health Care Institutions & Policy”. His passion for the industry and strategic innovation is truly inspiring, as he challenges us to think critically about how to improve health care delivery. His classes are highly engaging, encouraging perspectives from both those with industry experience and those without, fostering fresh, out-of-the-box solutions. More than just teaching concepts, he is dedicated to developing future leaders who can drive meaningful change through management innovations. His approach has pushed me to think beyond traditional health care models and explore creative strategies for industry transformation.
