”Being part of a team with members coming from different backgrounds truly sharpens my skills in active listening, team coordination, and time management. Moreover, working in a team at Fuqua truly brings in the definition of leading with the Decency Quotient (DQ) that Fuqua is known for.”

Why I Chose Fuqua
I like that Fuqua’s main pillar is the Decency Quotient (DQ). Having a people/client-driven background, I deeply value DQ and appreciate its presence in the school. Fuqua is transparent and always up-to-date with its career reports each year, providing detailed industry stats, so I could research the outcomes of getting an MMS degree at Fuqua. Additionally, the Career Management Center and Admissions teams were always open to my questions and provided the information I needed. Academically, MMS teaches me what I need to learn to advance my career. I came from a non-business background with some work experience, and MMS was the answer to leveling up my professional career. I also believe MMS at Fuqua is one of the pioneering Master in Management programs in the U.S., with over 15 years in the market.
Overall, I am proud that I decided to go to Fuqua. I very much enjoy the environment that always uplifts and believes in the possibilities of each other.
Before Fuqua
Prior to Fuqua, I worked in operations and product management in the hospitality and travel industry. I had the chance to work for multinational companies and also a local not-for-profit organization. During my experiences, I often felt lost when collaborating with executives as I didn’t speak the same business language. I was motivated to attend business school to elevate my business competencies and acumen.
After Fuqua
While open to different paths, I am passionate about areas where I could elevate my client advisory and operations skills. With the business knowledge I receive from Fuqua MMS, I plan to be in the professional services field where I can work directly with clients while applying the business concepts I learn during the program.
5 Tips for Maximizing Your Time at Fuqua and Duke
- Duke Groups: A platform that posts all the activities happening on campus every day. There are thousands of events with different causes that you can sign up for. I highly recommend it!
- Graduate & Professional Student Government: Believe it or not, Duke has more graduate students than undergraduate ones. Sign up to be a Senator representative from Fuqua to connect with the university. It is also an opportunity to network and connect with other students from Duke’s nine other graduate schools.
- MMS Fellows: With this role, you have the authority to make an impact on your MMS cohort. The MMS program team is always there to support you along the way!
- Join MBA’s social clubs. It is a great way to connect with MBA folks and make contributions to the community. Remember you are able to join any social clubs at Fuqua!
- You can also plan your own event – the MMS team is always there to support. Talk to MMS Fellows or MMS Program/Career Management Center teams about your ideas and they will be all ears!
What it Means to go to Fuqua
A Team Fuqua member is someone who participates in the school environment. That said, an ideal student is someone who engages in the school's academia and interacts with faculty, and who leverages his or her unique background to make impactful contributions to the surrounding Fuqua community.
