MMS: Foundations of Business student Marisella Adams-Grimaldi

“My leadership skills being the MMS Fellows President have grown so much in ways that I never thought they could. I have learned to conduct myself in many new settings, and how to properly communicate with my peers and superiors. The individuals I’ve met and the experiences I’ve had, along with the mentorship I’ve received, have had the greatest impact on this journey. “

Why I Chose Fuqua

Originally, I planned to attend Fuqua to grow as a business professional before attending Physician Assistant school. Since being a student here I have learned so much about myself and the opportunities out there, and have shifted my focus. This experience has taken a positive unexpected turn for me. I always saw myself in the medical field, but this experience has shown me that I can still have the same impact on bettering individuals' lives, but from a CEO position.

Before Fuqua

During my internship at Duke Hospital working with many doctors of different fields, I became very interested in how the system worked as a whole, and what skills I would need to lead a team of my own.

After Fuqua

I plan to be an entrepreneur and start my own business. I will create an environment in my company that shapes the lives of its employees.

5 Things to Know About Durham

  1. Dain’s Place has the best burger in Durham.
  2. Eno River has a quarry that you can swim in. There’s a 20-minute hike to the quarry.
  3. Best coffee on campus – Beyu Blue. Best coffee off campus – Foster Street Coffee.
  4. If you take a scenic route to the Science Drive Garage through the Bull Pen exit and walk the trail behind the J.B Duke, you can find a community of gnomes.
  5. Mezcalito’s has the best Mexican food and ambiance I have ever experienced. 10/10 recommend and everyone needs to try it once.

Many Hometowns, One Team

Every member of my team is from a different country: China, Spain, India, Pakistan, and United States! This has influenced my experience because I have learned so much more about new cultures than I have in the past. I have been able to experience so many new holidays celebrating my friends.
