Tobi Adewodu

"I've had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into small business acquisitions and build connections with industry leaders. Through my internships, I've also gained hands-on experience in private equity, allowing me to apply what I've learned in the classroom to real-world situations. These experiences have not only expanded my understanding but also helped me take meaningful steps toward achieving my professional goals."

Why I Chose Fuqua
I chose Fuqua for its strong commitment to fostering diversity. The Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship's (CASE) programming on social impact, particularly in impact investing, was a major draw as it aligns with my passion for driving meaningful change through business. Fuqua’s Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA) community has been transformative, providing valuable resources and connections as I explore small business acquisitions. Finally, attending what I believe is the premier school in the Southeast allowed me to stay close to home while pursuing my professional goals.
I am deeply passionate about expanding worldviews, learning from each other, and creating a sense of home within Fuqua’s diverse community. As a student leader, I actively contribute to fostering connections and meaningful dialogue. Beyond formal roles, I often host small gatherings at my home, creating welcoming spaces for classmates to connect, celebrate diversity, and build a sense of belonging.
Before Fuqua
I held leadership roles in both the finance and nonprofit sectors. Most recently, I served as vice president of residential mortgage lending at Morgan Stanley. Prior to that, I was the workforce development director at GRIP Outreach for Youth, a mentorship organization in Chicago.
After Fuqua
After graduation, I plan to pursue a career at the intersection of private equity, small and medium-sized business acquisitions, and impact. My goal is to leverage these tools to create sustainable businesses.
5 Random Things About Me
- I am the youngest of four boys. Our family has grown to include six nieces, shifting from all boys to all girls in the next generation.
- While I often go by Tobi, my full name, Oluwatobi, is from the Yoruba language of Nigeria and means "God is great."
- Growing up, I was so passionate about sports that my dream was to work in the industry. My original career goal was to become a general manager in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
- On my graduation day from undergrad, I celebrated by going skydiving. I’m not sure how I’ll celebrate my Fuqua graduation, but it will probably be much more relaxed than undergrad!
- My faith is a driving force in my life and an important part of who I am. I’ve worked in vocational ministry, participated in various domestic and international mission trips, and earned a Master’s degree in Spiritual Formation and Discipleship from Moody Theological Seminary.

Life in The Bull City (Durham, NC)
I love attending business school in Durham. Business school moves fast, and with all the traveling I’ve done for conferences and social events, coming back to a place like Durham feels amazing. The community here is strong, the quality of life is outstanding, and the weather—often in the 60s and sometimes even the 70s in November—is hard to beat. Durham offers a great mix of a vibrant intellectual environment and a comfortable, welcoming atmosphere.
