Daytime MBA Student Henry White

"I’m a firm believer in 'Team Fuqua'. I actively contribute to the community through my role in the Duke Armed Forces Association and as an Admissions Fellow, where I share my experiences and insights with prospective veterans considering a Duke MBA. These roles allow me to give back and help others see the value in what Fuqua, Duke, and Durham have to offer."

Why I Chose Fuqua

I chose Fuqua for its top-tier education, collaborative culture, and strong support for family life. I knew the rigorous academics would challenge me, while the diverse perspectives of my classmates would push me to grow in new ways. As an active-duty Army officer, I wanted to be in a place that felt like home for my wife who has grown accustomed to moving frequently. Fuqua stood out for its exceptional support for partners, making it the ideal fit for my family. My wife and I have formed some of our closest friendships here thanks to the welcoming and tight-knit Fuqua community.

Fuqua has truly lived up to its reputation as a transformative experience. The technical business skills I’ve gained in the classroom have completely reshaped my approach to problem-solving. Beyond academics, the relationships I’ve built within the Fuqua community and as a member of the Duke Lacrosse Team have been invaluable. On a personal level, welcoming my daughter into the world during my first year made this time in my life even more extraordinary.

Before Fuqua

I’ve spent the past eight years on active duty as an Air Defense Artillery officer. My most recent assignment was commanding a Patriot Air and Missile Defense Battery in Kuwait, where I was responsible for nearly 70 soldiers and their families. This leadership role sharpened my decision-making and strengthened my commitment to serving both my team and their loved ones.

After Fuqua

After graduation, I will return to active duty as the Great Lakes Regional Commander in the Admissions Office at West Point. I’ll be rejoining the Army with a new set of technical skills that will enhance our efforts to recruit and retain top talent in the Officer Corps, ensuring the continued strength and excellence of future Army leaders.

5 Ways to Spend a Weekend in Durham

  1. Start your weekend with Fuqua Friday! Grab a beer and some food with friends in the Fox Center if you're like me, and wait until the last minute to plan your weekend. Fuqua Friday is the best way to learn what's in store for the weekend socially.
  2. Go to a Duke sporting event! Free student tickets allow for easy access to nearly any sporting event.
  3. Get outdoors at Eno River State Park. Take a ten-minute drive from campus to go on a hike with friends, pets, and family.
  4. Get downtown to a Durham Bulls game. Immerse yourself in the Durham community for a sporting event, followed by a walk to the Brightleaf district.
  5. Walk on Ninth Street! With a substantial amount of students living in apartments nearby, you are bound to run into a classmate. Highly recommend Dain's Place.

Life in Durham

Durham is a foodie town! I love trying new restaurants. A few of the best are Cugino Forno, Pizzeria Toro, and any kiosk in the Durham Food Hall.
